The wife from the second example – she does it as well: her thoughts are gaining strength the more she nurtures them, making her feel even more insecure, making her become less and less desirable to her husband; and when he goes, if she doesn’t snap out of it, she could eventually become a vortex of despair, attracting more and more bad things to her life.

The Law of Attraction is not a new phenomenon, the theory behind its teachings has been around for ages. The release of the movie The Secret in 2006, based on Rhonda Byrne's book with the same name, created a media blitz that brought the teachings of the Law of Attraction to new heights, awakening thousands, if not millions, of people to this ancient truth.

Thank you for your comments. Hard to be positive when talking about the LOA. It's focus on blaming is pervasive. I am a positive psychologist and have proposed a new way of looking at attraction called the Principle of Attraction. As a Principle, like tends to attract like. Positive thoughts, feelings, actions, and words often attracts positivity...but not always. It's not a law, it's a principle, based on positive and social psychology.
If you are in pain, focus on the inch of your body that’s not in pain. If you are broke, hold the dollar in your wallet and focus on that. Start monitoring (not judging, but monitoring) your thoughts. You’ll be blown away by what goes on in your head every day. Stop when you find yourself talking about or thinking about what you don’t want, and immediately start telling yourself what you do want.
You may not remember my husband and me from our visit this past May, but afterward I came away with such an uplifted feeling of hope and happiness that I am compelled to write to you and tell you thank-you.

You were able to give my husband and myself the chance to talk with our son in spirit and in a manor of speaking – able to say goodbye, let go of the great sadness and to know that our son is in the rapture of angels.

You can do this yourself. You can become someone who purposefully creates ripples in the universe. Did you know, everything you do energetically ripples out and affects others? And the ripples then come back to you. This process is fast. Don’t underestimate how possible it is for you to be a true catalyst for change. You can be a magnet for all the positive ripples floating around out there. Like a radio station, you can tune into the good stuff. Starting right now.

But in truth, there is no alternative to testing the universe in this way and it’s not an arrogant thing to do – the universe isn’t prissy about such matters, and seems to be quite happy to cooperate with you by allowing the Law of Attraction to operate in your favour when you enter into these experiments in a state of clear intention and positive expectation.

This takes practice, but I promise if you stick with it, it will work. I went from a place of such illness and financial poverty to the exact opposite and I believe so much of it had to do with my shift in focus. When I received my stem cell transplant in India (which by the way practically fell in my lap when I finally wasn’t focusing on illness as much), I was literally catapulted into another culture: “the mind leads and the body follows.” I was not allowed to focus on the symptoms and the sucky things each day. My doctor there simply would not stand for it and would immediately say “the stem cells help heal your body along with your mind. They do not kill or address disease at all.” When I attempted to add my two cents about this bacteria or toxin, she would bring me back to the focus on bringing my body up, toward healing. And I healed exponentially faster than so many others that resisted her insistence away from the talk of disease specifics. She knew very well what she was doing….and I see that now.

I can’t give a definitive answer to the first question. We all experience the world in different ways and hold different perspectives about things and events in the world. We may even hold the same view about something and express in contradicting language. It is up to you to test the law of attraction in the ways described below and see for yourself.

11) Blame the Victim:  The only reason that anything bad could ever happen to you is because you were thinking bad thoughts. If someone rear-ends you in a car – 100% your fault. If you get breast cancer – 100% your fault (not genetics). If you get raped or abused – 100% your fault. Children getting killed by terrorists, sick babies in the intensive care unit, victims of floods, hurricanes, natural disasters, the Holocaust – yes, their fault. We all know deep inside that this is ridiculous to even suggest. However, it is a basic, fundamental premise of the LOA. You NEVER attract something you are not thinking about. When anything bad happens to anyone, they are to blame. Don’t feel sorry for anyone who has cancer or a disease or starving children in poverty, they brought it on themselves. What causes obesity? Slow metabolism? No, fat thoughts.  From LOA experts, “Disease cannot live in a body that’s in a healthy emotional state.” (Bob Proctor).  “You cannot catch anything unless you think you can, and thinking you can is inviting it to you with your thought.” (From The Secret). “Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results. Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction.” (James Allen). “If man will think only thoughts of perfect health, he can cause within himself the functioning of perfect health…” (Wallace Wattles). “Every individual creates every aspect of their experiences – we are in complete control of our health throughout our entire lives. There are no accidents.” (Esther Hicks).
Your Achieving your success EXACTLY the way YOU believe it should be attained. I understand how you feel about LOA being pseudoscience and I admire the way you can approach this sticky subject without ruffling the feathers of LOA believers. Money is what most people strive for because of social programming. It isn't even what most of us truly desire. LOA doesn't say everyone will feel the same about the appropriate amount of ACTION which needs to take place. Basing your level of success on the materialistic desires of modern society will of course leave the majority of people "Broke" When you realize the truth of the LOA. You'll see that it's all about "Feelings" which guide us to our ultimate purpose. Which we cannot even describe with any known words in our English language....the word LOVE is as close as we've come to describing it so far in my opinion...May I suggest that it's possible that you have already attracted into your life exactly what it is that you truly want...remember most of what we think is buried in our SUBconscious..maybe Love and understanding or a sense of achievement or FEELING we are headed in the right path is all we want deep down. We can have different approaches to achieve the same end goal. If we do what FEELS right with 100% honesty. Neither of us is on the wrong path of what it is we desire truthfully...Maybe you writing these articles and books resisting the LOA is attracting the very thing it is that you desire truthfully on a subconscious level....People who understand you? friendship? love??…LOA is just like Burger King brother. Have it your subconsciousway!
Unfortunately, this author has an extremely superficial understanding of the LOA. While he may claim to have read all of the books, he clearly didn't understand them. He really isn't to blame as unfortunately many of the books written on the LOA are written by people that do not fully understand it themselves. The statement that positive thoughts always bring positive things is a faulty premise that is not at the basis of the LOA.

Visualization is one of the most essential tools in every leadership toolkit. To gain maximum benefit, you must make your visualization as realistic as possible. Athletes have been successfully using visualization for years in their training. A golfer may visualize the perfect chip shot or a basketball player the ideal process for making a free throw.

3) No Action: The only way to manifest your thoughts into things is to believe and live as if you’ve already accomplished your goal. LOA guru Esther Hicks said, “You did not come into this environment to create through action.” Action shows the Universe that you know you don’t have it and that you doubt its ability to manifest it for you. While it is obvious to most that action is a necessary component of goal achievement, it is completely inconsistent with a belief in a LOA.

Positive thoughts lead to positive attitudes and positive behaviors. Positive people have more friends, better relationships, better jobs, get more promotions, are healthier and have improved immune systems. This is positive psychology, not a metaphysical phenomenon. It forms the basis of a Principle of Attraction in which Like tends to and often attracts Like...but not always.

Your actions in this world have more consequences than we can completely comprehend. What a person generally desires is a thing or a monetary result. This selfish touch may unconsciously lower our energy level. For example, say you want to buy a new house. If you only focus how other people may think about you when you own a new house, how to show off, etc. then it is less likely for the energy to flow and for the house becoming a reality. Instead see the bigger picture and truly feel what the new house can do to the world and you. The number of people who will get employment from constructing the building, the way you are your family will enjoy the new house, imaging the amazing feeling to be in the house, having a good time with friends, neighbours etc.
WOW! What a simply fantastic read. I've read dozens of books on motivation, LOA, etc and this one tops them all (even "The Secret"). It first teaches you the science behind Law of Attraction, introduces spirituality into it, and then gives real world practical advice on success. It teaches you to first shift your state of mine from negative to empowering then taking action. I love it because the writers make it easy for the layman to comprehend and connect. It's a fast read and I can tell it's already helping me with various areas of my life. A++
In truth, the best thing to do is affirm yourself constantly throughout the day to maintain that way of thinking. Our advice is for people to always try these things and notice the difference in your life and what an impact it can have. Certainly when starting out it would be best to make this the first thing you do and many successful believers will have affirmation cards or post-it notes in view as soon as they wake for this reason.
Most of the times, we think we know exactly what we need to be happy, what we need to get rid of, what needs to happen and what shouldn’t happen. Sometimes we are right and sometimes we are wrong. You can look into your past or study any person’s past and realise that the big jumps in maturity, life satisfaction, gratitude etc. happen when things go drastically wrong and we realise there is more to life than the surface appearances and start enjoying life at a different level. This reminds me of a Dalai Lama’s quote, “Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck”. So answering the second question. No, you won’t always get what you want.

Schedule some quiet time for some deep contemplation of what you desire to create in your life. What are your goals, hopes and wishes? Sit down with a pen and paper. Get clear, crystal clear. Define what you do want. Describe it, draw it, and define it. Define it in terms of the positive attributes. Define the attributes and characteristics of your dream. Take care not to use anything as a descriptor that is actually a statement about what your dream is not. Define what it is. Know exactly what it is you want.
The author needs writing instruction and possibly a brain scan. Not even the most talented editor could save this book. My 11-year-old nephew has a more sophisticated writing style! I'm paraphrasing: The Law of Attraction is a very important concept. This very important concept can make your life better. If you pay attention to your world, you will experience the law of attraction, which is very important, and it will improve your life so it will be better.
It is also important to write your affirmation in present tense. Use words such as “Is” “I am becoming” “I am” “I have” rather than words such as “I will be” “I am going to be,” etc. There is great creative power in the present moment and by stating your attraction affirmation with wording that alludes to future success, you’re missing out on this.

Have a vision. You need to know exactly where you wish to go. There is no way around this first step. It’s like going for a trip somewhere not knowing exactly where. You might end up in your neighborhood wondering why you aren’t some better place. Well, you just wanted to get somewhere else, without a clear vision and that is what you’ve got — you’re somewhere else. Once you know that you’re heading to Hawaii, you know which plane to take. It works exactly the same with anything in your life. Once you have a direction, your mind will align your actions towards your goal.
